A Message from the Township Manager They say time flies when you are having fun and to tell you the truth
the Staff, Board, Committee and Authority members, Council and I have
had a lot of fun in 2007. So much so that the year seemed like it was
over in the blink of an eye. Why so much fun? Well for starters, the
Township-wide Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan shot out of the starting gate
with enthusiasm and public support that carried it through the finish
line to completion. The Township continued open space acquisition with
the purchase of 50 Sandy Bank Road that added one-third of an acre to
Ray Roche Park. The former Brookwood property on Ridley Creek Road,
purchased by the Township in 2003 as open space, was formally dedicated
as a new part of Louis Scott Park and a new parking area opened to
visitors. The Township made new friends and partnered with the Media VFW
Post 3460 for Project Remembrance, which is the new Township memorial,
dedicated to those who served in this County’s armed services. The
Township also worked with the Pennsylvania Resources Council and Radnor
Township in promoting the use of rain barrels. That was just the tip of
the 2007 iceberg. I haven’t even talked about fighting the billboards on
Baltimore Pike or the new ordinances Council adopted to control over
development in the Township. But 2008 is here and it looks like the fun
will continue. I just hope the year doesn’t pass us by too quickly so
that we all can take in the improvements and savor the fun. We will miss
an old friend with Chief Davis retiring but welcome new Chief of Police,
David Montella. We will welcome a new 2nd District Councilman. We will
see phase 2 of the Providence Road Pedestrian Sidewalk begin and finally
complete the Rt. 252 Road Improvement plans and turn over to PennDot for
construction in 2009. There will be additional open space acquisitions
and Council will continue to work on ordinances limiting overdevelopment
and preserving the Township for future generations. I could continue
outlining the fun we will have seeing the Township continue to provide
the best services possible but why spoil the surprise. Chief Davis Retires End of Year
Chief Davis joined the Upper Providence Township Police
Department in 1971. He became Police Chief in 1982. He will tell you that
the Township has seen tremendous growth, in that time. Along with that
growth, comes increased traffic and many other issues that occur as part of
the population increase. Chief Davis and the entire Police Department have
done and continue to do an outstanding job protecting the residents of our
Township. |
