Council honored Medina Heller, Township resident, for her 25 years of
dedicated service as a crossing guard in the Township. Through rain, snow,
sleet and wind she has helped to safely cross our school children.
Thanks, Medina.
VERIZON IS COMING TO TOWN
In case you aren’t aware, Verizon has installed fiber optic lines in the
Township. What does this mean for Upper Providence residents? It means
that we will have two choices, Comcast. and Verizon to provide internet,
phone, and cable service. What does this mean for the Township? It means
that the Township has an agreement with Verizon to collect franchise fees.
Verizon hopes to begin offering cable service in early 2008. Hopefully,
the addition of Verizon services in the Township will give residents not
only a choice of provider but will generate competitive pricing for these
services.
TOWNSHIP-WIDE
PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE TRAIL PLAN UPDATE
The Township-wide Bicycle and Pedestrian Trail plan is nearing completion.
The Township’s consultant, Campbell Thomas & Co., have been making final
revisions to the plan as a result of comments received at the November 29,
2007, public presentation meeting. It is anticipated that the final draft
of the plan will be presented to Township Council at the February 2008
Council meeting.
The draft plan outlines not only existing trails, sidewalks and access
ways but also delineates potential trails and neighborhood linkages. The
plan provides an executive summary of the current trail and sidewalk
network as well as assessment for additional trail installations. The plan
is broken down into 4 different phases that start with the easiest and
important trails to the most difficult to create.
By adopting the plan, Township Council will not only put in motion a plan
to create a walkable community but also pave the way for grant funding
opportunities.
The proposed plan is available on the Township website homepage or
residents may stop by the Township Building weekdays 8:30 AM -4:30 PM to
review.
