The Upper Providence Township Police Department received several complaints regarding PECO phone scams last week. Residents and business owners are being contacted by individuals claiming to be PECO representatives. In most cases they inform people that PECO experienced a computer glitch and they threaten to cut your electricity off in a few hours if you do not purchase green dot cards or some other type of debit card in the amount owed. They provide you with a number to call back with the account numbers on the green dot cards. This is a scam. PECO will not ask for any personal information over the phone. If you are contacted by anyone from PECO requesting payment, please contact PECO directly before making any additional payments
