A letter from UPT Sewer Authority's Project Manager regarding contractors and sewer connections

Dear Fellow Residents,

One area of discussion I have had with many residents regards what they can expect from the contractor who is hired to connect them to the new sewers. There is a relatively new law in Pennsylvania called the “Pennsylvania Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act 132.” I called the State Attorney Generals office and was told that this law does apply to the type of work that you would be hiring a contractor to do in connecting your home to the new sewers. Sewer Project Update

On January 13, 2010, the Sewer Authority voted to award the contracts for construction of the 8 inch force main that will convey the sewage from the project area in the Ridley Creek watershed to the Media Treatment Plant. This line consists of 8000 feet of 8 inch pipe from Rose Tree Road to the treatment plant along Ridley Creek Road. The second contract is for the construction of the sewer collection system in the phase I area. While we had hoped to begin construction around the turn of the year, the actual construction will begin around the beginning of March and is expected to be completed by early August. If all goes according to plans, construction of the other phases will follow in succession. I have included a revised project schedule. I will update this schedule as needed.
The Authority is close to formalizing a policy to address the concerns of home owners who have fairly new on-site systems and who have expressed their view that the connection required date should be extended in such cases. Please call if you have any question regarding this matter.
